Radio links to the Internet

WaveLan

Radio links to the Internet include WaveLan based systems and other short range radio modems. The Wavelan system used in New Zealand is the 2.4Ghz types. The AT type PC plug-in cards have been tested with both the internal short range antennae (supplied with each Wavelan card) and with external higher gain antennae.

Throughput is nominally 1Mbit/sec maximum in each direction in duplex operation. Line of sight between the antennae is essential for highest speed reliable operation and ranges up to 12 Km are possible with larger antennae although throughput can drop to as low as several hundred Kbits/sec.
