Net Registry connects to KCCS

26 May 1997

Auckland's Net Registry completed connection via 64K MDDS to KC today.
After first contacting KC about four weeks ago, Net Registry's Peter Mott arranged to move his existing internet connection from Xtra to KCCS.
Telecom installed a new DDS on 22 May and arranged for one of KC's stacked wideband DDS timeslots to be made available for this connection. The new circuit was commissioned on the 26 May and within an hour Net Registry's routing, both National and International, was moved to KCCS with international traffic now moving via Telstra.

This move to KCCS was prompted by a proposed increase in Xtra's DDS charging and by unexpected connection outages at Xtra, the worst being the weekend of the 4/5 May when a switch/router problem disconnected all of Netway's internet customers for over 24 hours.
