KCCS/Napier updates

4 March 1997

Over this weekend several equipment and network updates occured at the KCCS hub at Napier. The Cisco 2522 multiport router was replaced with a Cisco 4000M router. This change to a mid-range Cisco router enabled more of the links into Napier to use compresssion and also allowed the ethernet network at Ram Management to be separated from the KCCS network.

A Pentium based PC running Linux was installed as a local new server.
This computer has 5.6gigs of disk space and uses disk striping over two 2.1gig scsi drives for the main news partition. The KCCS news server in Auckland provides a full news feed to the new server which in turn onfeeds news to the various ISPs connecting to the Napier hub.

Another Napier ISP, Internet Hawkes Bay, is also installing a WaveLan radio link over the next few days. this will be the sixth ISP connecting to the hub.
