Bethlehem College connects to KCCS

Bethlehem College, Tauranga connects to KCCS in Auckland via DDS link.
Since November last year Bethlehem College in Tauranga have been looking at a full time connection to the Internet.
An existing dial up uucp and PPP customer of bopis.co.nz (KC's Internet node in Tauranga) this upgrade to a full time connection will enable the college to make greater use of internet facilities in their teaching.
Although Telecom NZ initally indicated that MDDS services would be available in Tauranga they refused to provide a 48K MDDS between the Tauranga suburb of Bethlehem and the city centre where bopis is located. The option of ISDN was ruled out after Telecom quoted over $4000 installation cost as apparently the Bethlehem exchange would need to be upgraded and this cost would be part of the installation the College would have to pay.
The lowest cost option therefore turned out to be having an A step DDS connection directly to KCCS in Auckland. Since this would be using a channel in KC's stacked wideband DDS the cost of the connection at KC would only be for the use of the channels. This would mean a total cost for a 64K link at less than the cost of a 64K MDDS in Tauranga (if this service was made available by Telecom).
KC supplied a Cisco 2503 router for this connection.
